The Wimberley Valley and surrounding area are home to a surprisingly large number of unique craft breweries. Whether it's ales, lagers, pilsners, sours, or something more esoteric, suds lovers will want to make Wimberley a weekend destination.

Visitors can book a stay at any of the Valley’s quaint accommodations, which are within easy driving distance of the breweries. Some lodging spots even offer their own tour services, so ask when you book your reservation. Tipsy Tours and Wimberley Shuttle are two independent local services that can transport your gang. As always, be sure to designate a driver, and please drink responsibly.

Being the Hill Country, all of these breweries have ample outdoor seating. Most have climate-controlled seating indoors, so dress accordingly. These establishments often feature live music on the weekends and most welcome leashed, well-behaved pets. Several even have jungle gyms and games for the kids. Middleton Brewing

Two breweries are located south of town on Ranch Road 12. Middleton Brewing is one of the oldest breweries in the area, and it features a rooftop observation deck overlooking the Hill Country. Indoors, a cozy taproom features an impressive antique beer bottle collection and chandeliers made to look like hops buds. In addition to the classics, they offer several playful seasonal beers.

Roughhouse Brewing

Just a quarter mile away is Roughhouse Brewing, run by Alex and Davy Pasternak. The brewery and taproom sit on the family’s 50-acre ranch, and during construction in 2018, they discovered a small cave underneath their property. While the cave is not open to the public, it is the home to several kegs of barrel-aged beer that are released annually. Their in-house restaurant features mouth-watering pressed sandwiches that pair perfectly with their unique beers.

Lone Man Mountain Brewing

Lone Man Mountain Brewing is the next stop on the list. Its tasting room shares space with Wimberley Valley Winery, so if beer isn’t your thing, you can “wine” about it. Outside, check out the double-decker bus that now does duty as a walk-up bar, order a pizza from the on-site food truck, and relax under the stately oaks.

Ghost Note Brewing

A short drive north of town on Ranch Road 12 yields Ghost Note Brewing. A “ghost note” is a subtle, muted musical note played with very low volume that adds texture and groove without being prominently heard. In the same way, Ghost Notes reside within the water, grains, yeast, wood, and steel, each contributing its own story to every batch of beer. The open-air beer garden features a stage and an on-site food truck.

Vista Brewing

Co-founders Karen and Kent Killough call their Vista Brewing a “destination brewery.” They draw on their time in the United Kingdom, where they spent meandering afternoons at country pubs, and have worked hard to replicate the concept in the Hill Country. Not only do they pour award-winning beer, but their kitchen offers a sustainably produced, farm-to-table menu. Borrowing from area wineries, Vista offers two different memberships that let diehard fans receive special discounts and offerings of exclusive beers, pickup parties, and dinners.

Dozens of other breweries are located less than an hour’s drive from Wimberley -- whether along the I-35 corridor or further west into the Hill Country. Any way you choose to go, Wimberley is the ideal “beer base” for your next ale excursion.
