Plan a Spooky Halloween in Wimberley
October is one of the most enjoyable times of the year in Wimberley. The heat has relented, the leaves are turning color, and the nights are growing longer -- and spookier! If you’re looking for a fun-filled getaway for the whole family, look no further. Fall may seem a long way away, but book your lodging now to take advantage of Wimberley’s small-town Halloween hospitality.
Austin’s Congress Avenue Bridge’s bat colony might get all the attention, but did you know Wimberley has its own Mexican free-tailed bat colony living under the Cypress Creek Bridge, smack-dab in the middle of town? Our bats emerge by the thousands every night from summer until as late as mid-October, usually 30 minutes before sundown, depending on the weather.
Before or after this extraordinary emergence, visit nearby Creekhouse Kitchen and Bar or Chill’s on the Creek for a relaxing bite to eat, situated right on the bank of Cypress Creek. Or, if you want to satisfy your family’s sweet tooth, stop by Candy Cottage, Monster Treats, or Papa Hoo’s Popcorn for an incredible variety of ice cream, candy, taffy, and drinks.
Throughout October, get into the Halloween spirit with the Wimberley UMC Pumpkin Patch on the south side of town at Ranch Road 12 and County Road 1492. The Instagram-ready patch features hundreds of gourds of all shapes and sizes, ready for purchase.
One of Wimberley’s signature October events is BOO! Hole Halloween, held at the scenic Blue Hole Park. All ghouls and goblins can enjoy a trick-or-treat trail, Halloween-themed carnival games, a showing of Hocus Pocus, and more. Bring your costumes for a chance to win prizes, and get ready for s’mores, a hayride, and fun photo booths. Admission is entirely free, but registration is recommended.
Usually held on the weekend before Halloween, be sure to stop by 7A Ranch and visit Haunted Pioneer Town. It features an Old West village of spooky (yet family-friendly) encounters with ghosts and ghouls, portrayed by the Wimberley Players, our town’s very own theater troupe. The fundraiser helps the Players bring outstanding productions to Wimberley and assists in restoring Pioneer Town.
On Halloween night, hundreds of families descend on Wimberley Square to enjoy an evening of trick-or-treating and revelry. Most businesses open their doors and participate in the fun, and the Square is filled with live music and crazy costumes. Most of Wimberley’s downtown restaurants stay open for the celebration, so stop in and grab a bite or drink between trick-or-treat stops.
If you want to continue the fun through the weekend after Halloween, be sure to get tickets for the Harvest Moon Dinner and Dance, held at nearby Fischer Hall, one of the oldest dance halls in Texas. It features a silent auction, live music, and dinner catered by Wimberley’s award-winning Kelly’s Hill Country BBQ.
