Seven Great Spots for Outside Dining in Wimberley, Texas
The climate in Central Texas makes outdoor dining possible any month of the year. But particularly in the fall and spring, the cool breezes and mild temperatures make al fresco eating ideal. Here are seven spots in Wimberley that are known for their patios, courtyards, and outdoor overlooks.
Just down Old Kyle Road is Community Pizza and Beer Garden, another Wimberley staple. It has both indoor and outdoor seating, along with a fun bungee cord-netted playground for the kids. The laid-back eatery is known for its wood-fired Neapolitan-style pizzas and hearty salads, but try the Tavern Deviled Eggs for a special treat. Behind the bar are 32 rotating beer taps, or try one of their specialty cocktails, like the So Fancy -- a potent combination of vodka, St. Germain, and blackberry puree.
Also situated along Cypress Creek, across Ranch Road 12, is CreekHouse Kitchen & Bar. This is an excellent spot for elevated yet laid-back food and beverages -- in an Instagram-worthy setting. On a pleasant afternoon, the glass garage doors are lifted to let in a gentle breeze throughout the dining room. Healthy options abound, including the Wimburrito Bowl and the WTX Power Bowl, along with more decadent options like the new york strip and the buttermilk chicken tenders.
Hildee’s on the Square describes itself as “Pretty Dang Fancy,” and while the food may be, the atmosphere is casual and clubby. The restaurant features a breezy covered patio and excellent service. Dinner features local and regionally-sourced ingredients, including fresh oysters in season, redfish, and chicken fried bison, all expertly prepared by veteran chef Ryan Hildebrand, a transplant from the Houston fine dining scene. If you make it through your entree with room left in your belly, definitely order the Hildee Bars, which stack shortbread, caramel, and salted chocolate.
The Longleaf Craft Kitchen & Bar takes its name from the longleaf paneling lining the walls, which was salvaged from a 1912 building in nearby San Marcos. The warm and welcoming interior gives way to a tranquil courtyard and sculpture garden shaded by majestic oak trees. With one of the most extensive bars in town, Longleaf specializes in martinis and craft cocktails. If it’s small bites you want, the fried olives or Hangtown deviled eggs with fried oysters, bacon, and aioli cannot be missed. Notable entrees include Texas Hill Country quail and the decadent sauteed pork chop.
New to the Wimberley food scene is the Neon Armadillo. It’s currently a pop-up food trailer that will transition to its permanent digs at the junction of RR 12 and RM 32. The ‘Dillo is already establishing itself as a go-to spot for Tex-Mex BBQ. If you’re trying to play it (somewhat) healthy, order the Neon wedge salad with brisket or the kale salad with smoked chicken. Or, order the family-style Dillo Packs with pollo al carbon or brisket, served with charro beans, Mexican rice, charred onions and jalapenos, and homemade salsas. Savor your order in the shade under welcoming live oak trees.
Wimberley’s outdoor dining scene is a true reflection of the town’s charm, offering diverse experiences for every palate in a picturesque setting. Whether you’re looking for family-friendly spots or a more refined experience, Wimberley delivers. The options for al fresco dining in this Texas Hill Country town are as varied as they are delightful.
